Comcast Cable vs Verizon FIOS (internet)?

I have Comcast cable internet and I have been extremely pleased with the service, except for the price. I’ve been doing a little bit of shopping around and Verizon has a really good deal on FIOS internet.
Anyhow, how does Verizon FIOS compare to Comcast cable?
Is Verizon FIOS reliable? Are the listed speeds close to the actual speeds? For example, if Verizon lists 15 mb download as the speed, will I actually get 15 mb download speed?
Comcast’s price is forcing me to switch, but I can’t say that I would be pleased switching over to Verizon. Their customer service is terrible, but money talks.
